Unlocking Mental Wellness: What to Expect from Your Therapist in San Ramon
Now that you are ready to move forward with a therapist in San Ramon, you might be feeling nervous about meeting with a new therapist. It’s normal to wonder what you are going to talk about in the first session. Will the therapist think my problems are too small? Or will the therapist think my case is untreatable?
Let me help by sharing some things you can expect from a therapist in San Ramon.
What to expect in the phone consultation with a therapist in San Ramon
Therapists use these calls as a time to hear what your concerns are and what brings you to therapy now. You don’t need to share all the details, as you can talk more in the counseling sessions. In my phone consultations, I want to make sure I am the best therapist for you, and if I’m not, I will personally guide you in the right direction.
You can also use this time to ask the therapist your questions like schedule, session fees, and their therapeutic approach.
What to expect in the first session
Typically, your therapist will send you paperwork to complete before the first session. If you have any questions about the forms, your therapist will answer in the session.
The first session is considered an intake. Your therapist will review what was shared in the phone consultation and then ask more questions. With me, you can expect to answer more direct questions in the first session because I want to get to know you. I have some typical questions I ask every client.
How long can you expect to be working with a therapist in San Ramon
You won’t be coming to counseling sessions and just chatting each week. Your therapist will have a treatment plan for you with goals. With my clients, I complete regular “check ins” where you and I discuss your personal outcomes.
Starting therapy takes courage.
